A special Christmas Trip With Family or Friends

It’s nice to do things with friends and family at this time of year. You may not have time for any big event or get away i.e. like me your diary is soooooo full up till Christmas. If you can squeeze an extra special trip around Christmas time it’s well worth the effort. We are coming closer and closer to Christmas now but sometimes the last minute plans are the best! Personally, I think I’m going to arrange stuff for the days after Christmas.

London

Make a day of it in London. I love having a wander around London and looking at all the Christmas lights and decorations. Go to some of the big stores to see their festive window displays. Head to Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park – free entry. Open from 10am to 10pm (from 21st November 2014 – 4th January 2014).

Then grab some skates for ice skating at Somerset House (11th December 2014 – 11th January 2015) or just sit in the Fortnum’s Lodge with a large glass of bubbly and feel smug that your not falling over on an icy sheet!

After some serious window shopping stay in the west end for a mulled wine at a pub, (try Pontefracte Castle on Wigmore street)  for a warming end to the day.

Paris
I always fancy heading to a Christmasy market abroad. But how about doing something different and heading to Paris for a Christmas outing?

Chrismas Tree, Galleries Lafayette, Paris

Head to Paris to see the amazing Christmas Tree at the Galeries Lafayette.

Go ice skating at the Grand Palais des Glaces, see the lights at the Champs-Elysees and the Christmas tree at Galeries Lafayette (with of course a bit of shopping!).

NYC

For a long weekend away, you can’t beat New York New York, especially at Christmas time. I love the hussle and bussle on the streets in NYC and they really know how to make it feel Christmasy. Go shopping and meet Santa on the 8th floor at Macys Santaland. The Mommy Poppins gives a great breakdown of the what’s, where’s, when and who’s of Santaland  (buy tickets in advance).

See the Christmas tree and go ice skating and then do a bit more shopping at the Rockefeller Centre!

Shopping for Summer Work Shoes

Summer is here in Britain, possibly, well, sometimes!

So you’re stuck in an office, at your desk or spending your day on your feet. What do you wear on your feet when its hot and you need to look smart?

I’ve worked in a wide variety of offices, all of which had their own rules and thoughts on summer office attire.

There are various scenarios regarding office shoe regulations! Two of the key ones often are no open toe or no sling backs.

Here are some options for either scenario.

No Sling backs:

 No Open Toe

Wear a sling back if you can

Wet Weather – We need to prepare our wardrobes!

We have been having a very rainy time of late. Some people have been having it really bad with flooding in their homes and business premises. My heart goes out to them as there is very little that can be done, when you are at the mercy of the elements.

Not to make light of their situation but is there any way that we can get through a daily commute and get to work without looking like a drowned rat? Do you have a hair dryer at work to rectify a bad wet hair situation?

Do you have a great rain mac with a very strong umbrella or do you prefer a mac with a hood?

I’ve had a look around and the following companies have some nice rain-macs and coats:

Seasalt have a waterproof collection or you could try the rain coats at The Cambridge Raincoat Company.

Aquascutum do a lovely rain mac like this Double breasted raincoat Lana or why not try some Swedish design from Stutterheim, at Make it Rain.

If you enjoy wearing a bit of colour through the bleak weather then perhaps a mac in bold stripes from Boden is what you are looking for. Joules has a big mix of country style coats.

Obviously no raincoat listing would be complete without a mention of Burberry. I love that you can design your own burberry trench coat on the website.

Do you have a windproof umbrella? I’m thinking of getting one – this one at Stutterheim sounds really good.

Just as I get my head round the wet weather and preparing for it…..apparently we’ll soon be getting the icy cold that has hit America!

New shoooeeees? Because everyday is a shoe day!

Tomorrow if you are thinking “mmm I’d like to head somewhere different for Sunday breakfast plus I need some new shoes and I want some flowers”; you need to be heading to Columbia Road.

Peponita has popped up this week at 95 Columbia Road. Tomorrow is your last day to go in, try on and grab yourself some new shoes.

Ladies, these are shoes you can walk, work and dance in!

If you can’t make it to Columbia Road – why not book an appointment to try on at their Highgate studio in North London. Because I have annoyingly shaped feet – I think trying on is essential with shoes!

These are some pics of their lovely pop up at Columbia Road. Doesn’t it look fab!

More shoes!

How about some lace ups?

One red dress: many colour combinations

One red dress many colour combinations
Instead of pairing a red dress with black accessories, red can be worked with many other coloured accessories. For instance you could go for dark brown, light brown, beige, pale blue, navy, pale grey OR dark grey! The easiest method is to pick one colour that matches well.
If you try and keep to a maximum of three colours in the outfit you will look put together, not too matchy matchy and not too overwhelming colourwise!
  1.  Select red dress (main base colour)
  2. Select second colour (contrast/lifting colour: dark navy bag and shoes)
  3. Add a neutral to run through the outfit (nude tights, nude tone cardigan/jacket and pearl/nude toned jewellery)- could be black, nude or white
