Packing for Travel – Light!

So you have your special travel drawer organised and packed to the brim.
What should you pack and how?
The Basics:

  • For short business trips pack items that can all mix and match
  • Pack in outfits
  • Don’t pack things you wouldn’t wear normally

The Basic Items List:
• Nude lingerie set
• One day bag
• One evening bag
• One pair of nude or black heels
• One pair of neutral flats
• Your best dress
I find I pack the best in outfits. I pick out key pieces that I want to wear on the trip, whether I’m on a business trip or holiday.
I like to think about my trip’s itinerary and pick my outfits accordingly. That sounds obvious, I know, but be quite specific. Will you be walking a lot from location to location or will you be getting taxis? Is there the potential for some high-end meals out or will you be chilling in your hotel room?
So keeping that all in mind I start to pick a key item for each ‘event’ on the itinerary.
For example: My Three day Trip to Paris itinerary (part business / part pleasure!)
Day 1:
Travel to St Pancras get the train to Paris
Arrive, drop bag off at hotel and go to an exhibition
Eve: meal and drinks out

Day 2:
Go to fabric exhibition all day
Eve: meal and drinks out

Day 3:
Go to shops
Catch train home

The dress in the middle of the outfit building below is what I wore for business day two. This was how I then built up the wardrobe for the three days.

Natural and Navy

Natural and Navy
During the summer months navy is a great alternative colour to black for work.
Wear your navy dress with natural low denier tights. Here I chose a selection of low denier Wolford tights but see this page for more options.
Wear a nude/natural coloured shoe that matches your leg tone to extend the length of your leg.
You can go for a matching navy bag, a nude shade or maybe even add a pop of colour with a red or pink bag!

Got it in the bag

I am often scrabbling around in my lovely handbag looking for this or that. I’m pulling out item after item to find things. I realised that it’s not giving a great professional impression as a business woman. The handbag should look co-ordinated, smart, organised and still have all the ‘just in case’ weather requirements we need in London!

So, here is a range of looks that you could work in your handbag.

Stay practical and beautiful!!!

Got it in the bag
From top right:
It’s All Black
An all black look for the lovers of classic all black.
A compact mirror with an interesting padded texture, a black pashmina to keep the chill off, a range of pens (because you always need a pen), a Salvatore Farragamo keyring The statement McQueen scull handled umbrella adds a bit of edge to the look. Then I picked another McQueen item – a smart leather cosmetics bag,a YSL leather business card holder and a classic black Mulberry wallet.
Pink Lady
This look starts with a gorgeous bright pink Kate Spade wallet, then add a fun makeup case by Lulu Guinness, a pretty pink pen, a cute pink poodle key ring, a lovely bright pashmina, a black and white compact umbrella for unexpected showers, compact travel mirror from Sergio Rossi and keep your business cards safe in a black Rebecca Minkoff case.
Keeping Cool in Blue
Choose a quirky makeup bag such as this one by Marc by Marc Jacobs and work the rest of the look around it. A Vivienne Westwood wallet in stunning blue shade, a silver compact mirror, a swarovski blue pen, a Marc by Marc Jacobs compact umbrella, a deep blue Forzieri pashmina, a Mulberry silver star key ring and finally a silver business card holder from Kate Spade.
Red, black and fun
This smart but fun look starts with a McQueen business card holder in a bright red leather. I love this fun keyring dog by DSquared2. Then we add a bright pashmina from Forzieri for when the weather turns, a smart pair of ball point pens, a bright red compact umbrella will chase the rain away, a very smart ‘I mean business’ black embossed make up bag from Comme des Garcons, a fun red compact mirror and last but not least a Comme des Garcons spotty leather wallet.

Be BOLD at work

Black Suit Recipe
Ingredients:
1 Black suit
1 pair of bright smart shoes
1 bright work bag or ipad case
1 bright statement necklace

1.Take one black work suit
2.Add a rainbow of colourful accessories
3. Wear all day with confidence

Be BOLD at work
I love a black suit for work. It’s a classic and you really can’t go wrong with it (unless it fits badly). A well fitting black suit you can bring out season after season for work.
You can always buy new versions with interesting features such as a satin lapel or a peplum jacket.
But if you want to stick to your own suit but update it, a great way to do it is to add a bright colour in your accessories. Reference current colour trends or just pick a colour that looks amazing on you.
Bright colours would look really great right now in the summer heat.
(although as I write this it started raining….I’m sure the sun will be back!!!)
