The Everyday Routine: Skin care and makeup

I often discuss makeup and skin care routines with my friends. Sharing your information about the products you use and love is a great way of getting some very useful tips back!

I’ve got a daily basic skincare and makeup routine that I stick too. I’ve got a few things I do everyday and I can get ready very quickly with the routine that I have. Are you the same? How do you juggle skin care, makeup, getting dressed, (getting kids ready for school or partners!!) getting your lunch ready and making it to work on time?!!

Here is my skin care routine:

Feeling Fresh Faced For Spring?

I love coral and I think for makeup this is perfect as a blusher highlighter tone for cheekbones. Feels fresh and Spring like. It’s not too heavy or dressy so it can be perfect for work or a summer day in the park.

We used coral blush in the video shoot to go with our Eloise dress in coral – it worked really well.

Need A New Daily Makeup Look?

I am no makeup artist – it’s never been my ‘thing’. I lOVE seeing all the colours all lined up on a beauty counter and always want them all to have at home together! I have learnt skills and techniques from friends, trying things out and also from the numerous videos that are online. If you don’t have time for all that but you want to learn some new skills or get out of a makeup rut perhaps you need to make time for it – book a course.

I’ve picked out some courses that looked good. They are various lengths, prices and focus on different makeup and beauty areas.

Take your pick:

Illamasqua

Timeless Beauty Course £50

Perfecting Skin Course £375

Paint box London

Makeup Short Course £850

Hair Short Course £450

London Makeup Academy

Beauty Workshops:

HD Brow and Eyes £99

Perfect Foundation and Contouring £99

Don’t Forget To Give it Some Lippy

YesJust thought I’d do a quick morning share as I get ready this morning for my PR meeting!Yes 5

I love red lipstick!

There are so many shades out there to choose from. I’m pretty convinced there is a good shade of red for everyone!!

I think it’s a shade that means business – don’t mess with me. It’s strong and powerful: women embrace your red shade.

I think if you don’t want to over do it with red in the work environment you can layer up the colour. One sheer layer for work and then add to it for the evening.

Lisa Eldridge gives us some tips on how to create the perfect red lips in an online video.

At Refinery29 they have uncovered some of the best shades for every skin tone.

Women’s London Networking Evening in Colour!

You may or may not know that I run a clothing company. So the big company announcement today is that I have launched the tickets for our September event!

colour-eve-graphic-fb

The evening is for women from a whole range of industries and professions to come together in London and enjoy an evening of networking and personal consultations.

The theme of the evening is colour which is such a broad and interesting topic. The colours you wear effect the way that people perceive you, it can affect your mood and it can make you look amazing or drab.

Around that them of colour we have selected different areas for the evening:

  • Makeup: Focusing on eyeshadow colour
  • Hosiery Finding the best natural colour match for your skin
  • Hair: what is the best hair colour for you
  • Image: What is one colour that looks amazing on you
  • Clothes: Allowing you to select exactly the colour you want for your dress

The brands included in the event are:

Makeup WORKS: A British makeup brand who have been making inroads on the makeup market. They are targeted at mature skin; the colours and shades are great and in particular the products are matte. Makeup WORKS will be providing 10 minute slots to discuss eyeshade colours and if you want, they can try it out on you.

FALKE: A premium hosiery brand. Leading the way in hosiery they have a new exciting range called Perfect Skin Colours. A consultant will be at our event with samples in hand to guide you through choosing the right skin colour for your legs.

FOUR: Leading hair colourists voted ‘Best for Colour’ by the Tatler hair guide 2013 will be providing 10 minute consultations. If you’re unsure about your hair colour or you need some advice then this is for you.

Inside Out Image: What colour would be best for you to wear to work? What colours suit your skin tone? Joanna Gaudoin from Inside Out Image will be starting the evening off by introducing us to the world of colour and then will be providing one to one mini consultations.

and then there is my company: Kerry O’Brine Womens Wear: We design and produce clothing in my UK studio. The silk Line is our main collection and this provides women the chance to choose exactly what they want: choose your style from our six dresses, choose your colour and choose your sleeve length.

I’ll be launching our new colour dye to order service some new colours for Autumn Winter and some other things too! For now, that’s all I will say about this because you’ll have to come to the launch to find out more!!

The Academy: The venue is equally exciting as the line-up! We have the whole of the ground floor in The Academy in Bloomsbury, London for the evening of 12th September. If it’s a lovely sunny evening you’ll be able to network outside in the courtyard or have a drink in the conservatory! The 4* hotel has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Enjoy the evening with complimentary drinks available on arrival and canapes included in the ticket price. I always insist on food…. who can network after work on an empty stomach? Not me!!

All the women involved are supportive and friendly individuals. We love to network and support other women running their own business, working their way up the career ladder and getting the balance between a high flying career and home life.

If you are based in and around London and you are interested and a woman then please join us.

COLOUR-EVENING

Feed back is always welcomed. Do you know of a great location to hold another event? What brand would you like to get advice from? Is there a topic that you would like to learn more about at an event?

Make Up Works?

I love makeup like the next girl. But I’m no expert that’s for sure; I have a good friend who is though who gives me good tips!

Having received these lovely Makeup WORKS samples in the post I wanted to share them with you. Currently being younger than Makeup WORKS target market I thought I’d give them a go but to make it a true test my mum will also been trying them out. Their concept of looking fab after fifty is great as I don’t think there are many (or enough) products on the market aimed at this group of ladies. So hang tight for another blog entry with us in the makeup!

Here are some of the products:
Shades of brown eyeshadows
cheek and lips
Some colours for cheeks and lips
Eyeshadows
From top right clockwise; eyeshadows in Sea, Azure and vanilla, then N.Blusher (BL60013)
Lippies
Lipstick colours Tequila (orange tone) and Parisian (pink)

Making it Up with a Make Up Artist

Makeup precisionIt was amazing to work with Tracy on the recent photoshoot for summer office wear.

Tracy and I were emailing back and forth before the shoot. I sent her some inspiration pictures and Tracy had some great ideas about the eye makeup and this was to be the focus of the makeup look

We went for smokey eye makeup but with a twist. The smokey eye makeup Tracy did was in an Aqua colour to pick up on the colours in the collection. Choosing Aqua made the dramatic eye makeup, softer, more summery and sixties.

To complement the bright 60s eye makeup Tracy kept the lips a nude shade. We considered coral but agreed this would be too much and a nude lip would keep a bit of everyday reality to the look!

The nails were the first things to be started on the day which worked out well, they could then dry whilst the hair was put up in rollers. The nails were done in a great minty green shade which was the perfect summery pastel shade for the look!

Making Up Behind the Scenes

So here is the second little behind the scenes makeup video for you. Suzie Love worked hard putting together the makeup look for the Kerry O’Brine Womens Wear Silk Line fashion photoshoot. Although the makeup was inspired by the 1920s and needed to be strong in the photos we wanted to make sure it would come across as a realistic look for a professional woman during the working day.

Suzie and I had a little chat about the look we were going for:

Suzie “As long as you have the dark lip and definition round the eyes”

Kerry “For work, you wouldn’t do more than that if you were doing it yourself”

Suzie “If you were going for a dark lip, you wouldn’t necessarily go for a strong eye for the day”

Kerry “It’s getting the balance of it being a photoshoot and the extreme look of that and the reality of it being work”

Suzie “Yes, it’s going to be a mix between the two”

Behind the Photoshoot

I Taking out the rollersthought people might like to get a feel of what went on behind the photoshoot.

I have to say this shoot was one of the most relaxed I’ve ever been on. Everyone arrived early, organised and ready to go!!! We all got on well and understood what each other had in mind!Getting made up
