How To Style Black And White Patterned Skirts For Work

Black and White Patterned Skirts
This week black and white skirts have been catching my eye. A black and white patterned skirt is a great piece for your working wardrobe. It has such versatility; you can probably accessorise and pair it with various different items you already own.
Don’t forget to choose a skirt length and shape that suits you. It’s best not to just jump in and purchase just because you love the skirt and the pattern (a note from personal experience!!).
You purchased a black and white skirt. The next step is to asses your wardrobe.
3 ways to style a black and white skirt

1. The first option is a styling option that has been recently trending: mixing pattern with pattern in one outfit. This doesn’t have to look crazy but it can be harder to find a good match of items. It’s best to use a larger scale pattern on one item with a smaller scale pattern on the other. A pop of colour added to the mix can lighten the look.

2. Pull out all the blouses/shirts/tops (in one colour) you have for work. Now put the skirt on and try it with each of the coloured tops.
What do you think? Do you like yourself in that colour put with the black and white skirt?
In this example I have matched the bag to the shirt to unify the look.

3. This is the most straight forward styling option. Select all the grey, white and black tops/blouses/shirts out of your wardrobe and try them on with the skirt. Sometimes a style of blouse will go better than another. Until you get them on it can be hard to say. To brighten this look it’s nice to highlight parts of your outfit in a colour. In this example I’ve used a belt, shoes and nail varnish but you could use different items. Try a coloured jacket/cardigan, necklace or bag instead.

Daily work wear Style: Fitted pencil skirt and loose silk blouse

One of the advantages of designing and making clothes is wearing them! I always at least like to try them each on at sample stage.

Here I am wearing the Grace blouse in ivory and the sample for a stretchy pencil skirt. The looseness of the blouse style contrasts nicely with the fitted style of the pencil skirt.

A quick video snippet of me talking about why we decided to continue the Grace blouse across seasons:

Daily Work Wear Studio: Smart Casual

Working in a studio means sometimes I like to do smart casual. I appreciate that for those of you in corporate and office based roles that this may be annoying! Sorry.

Maybe you could replace the skinny black jeans with some slim cut trousers if the skinny jeans look is too casual. I like to wear my skinny jeans with heels to elongate my legs!

The perfect mid-length sleeve and flattering high cowl neck; we are not sure why this is still left!! Was £300 Now £210

Lana Dress, Large, Navy, Long Sleeved

2. Lana Dress: This large size (14-16) dress is perfect for a curvy lady! The wrap dress style is flattering for most figures and the double layered neck line is designed for higher coverage. The long sleeves will take you through to Autumn. Just add 60 denier black tights and black court shoes for a great Autumnal transformation.

Grace Blouse in Ivory

3. Grace Blouse: This very popular silk blouse is such a versatile piece. Great worn with trousers or a skirt for a smart work outfit OR pair with some skinny jeans or casual skirt for laid-back luxury!

We have two left in the classic ivory colour – small and large!

Rosa blouse in blue

4. Rosa Blouse: Rosa is a slimmer cut version of the Grace blouse style with mid-length sleeves and turn back cuffs.  I love this blue color. I think it looks like a Mediterranean sky blue but others think it has a greeny hue about it. Either way, it’s perfect for the summer. We only have one medium left in the sale!

Don’t forget we still have free delivery and returns on all orders over £100.
