Because (sometimes) Classics Are The Best!

It seems a while now since I first got into discussions with the lovely Kate (a la Pouting In Heels). We were discussing her upcoming photoshoot and what she was going to wear.

Well, the result of the photoshoot was beautiful. It is a real example of how pretending to be someone else can give you confidence behind the camera. Try it next time someone says ‘say cheese’ – you may end up feeling more yourself than ever!

Trench Coat and silk dress

You can see she is a complete natural behind the camera in this blog article featuring a dress from my one of my collections!

I like the way she has styled the dress with the trench – a nice combo of smart and casual. I look forward to seeing more styling on her blog, she obviously has a flare for it.

City style Fashion dress

Keeley in my navy Jo Jo dress

It’s always nice to see how different people style and wear my designs.

See here how one of my fav bloggers Keeley (the British Fashionista) styles one of my dresses (JoJo) with exactly the right amount of accessories for a smart work city look. She added some smart heels, a great bag, big sunnies and some subtle jewellery.

Morning tea – Grey and black

It’s a little early in the morning for pictures. You can see how thrilled I looked! Morning cup of tea to get the grey cells going and my studio assistant has already got the camera out!! But here I am dressed in my black Missy dress, accessorised with a grey lace jacket. The jacket looks good flying loose but I have added a grey belt to nip in at the waist. The volume of the jacket works well over the fitted dress.

I’ve also pic 2added one key accessory – the grey/silver bracelet.

Black and grey are a great work combination. Have a go at mixing your work wardrobe up – you might have a grey suit jacket that would look great over a black dress?

Try these out:

monochrome refilia tweed jacket by IRO

compact textured wool double breasted jacket by Neil Barrett

Like the jacket I am wearing, this cardigan has a waterfall effect at the front. You could wear it loose or add a belt:

Black dress plus Red

Today I’m wearing my black JoJo dress styled with a red belt and black shoes.

MagazinesThis dress seemed perfect working with a PR agent on a warm day like today!IMG_9485

Using a wide coloured belt is a great way of nipping you in at the waist. It’s an easy way to add personality to an outfit but keeping it work appropriate.

If your looking for a red belt to try, these are a couple of great belts I have found:

Genevra Printed Leather Skinny Belt

Jaegar Red suede and leather inlaid belt

I would definitely add a nice big red bag to brighten up a black outfit. One of these would look good:

Styling a black dress for work with brown and leopard print

If you’ve been reading my styling posts, you’ll probably have noticed that I try to keep my styling simple! Today I styled my black JoJo dress a little bit retro with a lovely leopard scarf and some black sunnies!

I’m wearing some brown kitten heel sling back shoes which are great for a little bit of a lift but also comfy! Brown shoes work with this black dress because they pick out the brown in the leopard scarf.

I was enjoying some icecream in The Parlour at Fortnums. A great way to get the creative juices flowing on a hot day!!

You could try any of the following with a black dress; Tie the outfit together with a scarf or belt that mixes brown and black with some brown shoes.

I would suggest for work outfits to keep the look more professional you select scarves that are slim, silky and not too long. A bigger bulkier scarf can look really good in a casual look but could be too dominant for work.

Take One Great Dress – A New Years Resolution!

For New Years I don’t think people should just start resolutions willy nilly. If you don’t feel motivated and willing to put the effort in there simply is no point. I believe you can start resolutions any time during the year; you don’t need to wait for the New Year. Saying that, I have decided on a resolution for myself; have a big clear up of my clothes and organise my wardrobe more efficiently. I hope that this will not take me the whole of 2013 to achieve but will make 2013 a more organised year!

I’m hoping that by re-organising my wardrobe it will through up any gaps that need to be purchased, as well as things that can be given to charity.

My plan is this:

  • Go through my wardrobe and select key pieces I wear a lot, are useful and I’m keeping, such as-

Black dress, pencil skirt, white blouse, well fitting smart trousers

  • Then I will go through my wardrobe and try and find all the combinations of clothing and accessories that will go with the items I selected; this could be turning it into a coffee with friends look, turning it into a meeting outfit, a meal out combination or a smart work look.
  • I’m thinking of photographing the new outfit ideas so I can plan my week and daily outfits with them.

Below is an example of how I hope to make it work.

  • You have the casual brown look with slouchy bag and fab over knee boots.
  • Then there is the evening look with touches of gold, a statement ring and killer heels.
  • A smart day time look with Mary Janes and sophisticated bag, downplayed for casual with knitted hat and leather jacket.
  • Finally a work look with a smart cardigan, a great Jill Sander bag, flat pumps and a cute bow belt to finish it off.
